Before choosing tools, you need a direction. This roadmap helps you connect the pieces: what to understand, which decisions to make and what should come next for your goal.

Six stages to help you find your bearings. Return to an earlier stage when your goal changes. Your pace depends on your experience and the problem you want to solve; this map has no mandatory schedule.

For your goal: Improve my work
Open the stage that interests you. Each block helps you decide what to learn next.
Place four ideas on your map: models that generate responses, automations that follow rules, applications that organise an experience and people who review the result. A convincing answer does not, on its own, prove that it is correct.
What do I want to understand before trusting a tool with a task?
For your goal: Which parts of my work need human judgement?
You can explain a possible use, a limitation and what would need human review.
Comparing every model or choosing a permanent specialism.
Learning out of curiosity, improving your work and selling a solution are different journeys. A useful starting point is a need: who has it, what happens today and what change they would value.
Who do I want to help, and with which specific problem?
For your goal: Which task could help me work better?
You can describe the goal in one sentence without starting with the name of a tool.
Starting an agency, building a brand or creating a full service catalogue.
Your foundations include making a clear request, recognising missing information and reviewing the output. If you want to build solutions, it also helps to understand how systems connect, what an API is and what a database does. The depth depends on your goal.
Which concepts do I need to understand the tools I use?
For your goal: Can I provide context and review an answer?
You can describe where information enters, what transformation you expect and how you would recognise an error.
Mastering every tool or learning advanced programming before understanding the use case.
An existing tool, rule-based automation or a custom application can address different needs. Imagine a person’s journey: what they provide, what they receive and where they need help. This helps you judge which level of complexity makes sense.
What is the simplest solution worth exploring?
For your goal: Is an assistant enough, or do I need connected tools?
You can explain what it would include, what it would leave out and which parts a person would still handle.
Complex agents, multiple integrations or a complete product.
Before expanding a solution, consider what working well means: output quality, errors, review time and cost. Data permissions, privacy and responsibility belong in that evaluation from the beginning.
What evidence would make me continue, revise or drop the idea?
For your goal: Does the help justify the time spent reviewing?
You can describe an acceptable result and a situation that would require stopping or asking for help.
Promising savings, income or outcomes that you have not yet verified.
A useful solution needs someone who understands it and knows what to do when it fails. For client work, scope, delivery, support and expectations also need to be clear. If you are learning for yourself, the next step may be going deeper into one skill.
What would it take to keep this useful over time?
For your goal: Which skill do I want to develop next?
You can identify who would review the result, what support is missing and what you want to learn next.
Scaling to many clients or automating everything before sustaining one small use case.

It is an orientation map to understand what is worth learning and which decisions come next. When you want to practise, there are separate tutorials with exercises and specific steps.
You do not need to code to understand the map. The technical depth you need depends on whether you want to use tools, improve a process or build and maintain solutions for other people.
It sets no fixed deadline and guarantees no outcome. Use it to find your bearings and revisit your priorities as your experience changes.
