AI in small businesses: start with everyday processes
In this conversation, we discuss how AI can become part of a small business's work. The most useful approach is to focus on recognisable tasks: answering enquiries, organising appointments, preparing content and finding information to work better.

01The person doing the process knows the need
The discussion includes very different businesses. My response is that possibilities depend on what happens inside each one. From outside, you can propose hypotheses, but the person handling customers or coordinating work knows the interruptions and exceptions.
Before choosing a tool, ask them to describe a full day or task. Look for a repetition that can be clearly explained. That observation offers a better starting point than trying to apply AI to every activity at once.

02Combine tools with judgement
In the conversation, I argue for using AI to complement work. Help with writing or classification does not need to become responsible for every business decision. Know which result you expect and how you will review it.
You can start with a reversible task and sample data. Check whether the response is correct and which corrections it needs before adding it to a real process. The goal is to learn where it helps and where it adds review work.
03A specialised assistant needs good context
I also explain preparing an assistant for a particular function using instructions and documents. Specialisation begins by defining the task and providing relevant information, not by giving it an impressive title.
To apply the idea, describe which questions it should answer, what information it can use and when it should ask for clarification. Then test familiar examples. If you cannot verify the answers, you still need a review method before entrusting it with more work.
04Separate possibilities from verified claims
The conversation includes opinions about the future and informal references to companies and tools. This adaptation retains the practical ideas without turning those opinions or passing figures into verified facts.
For your business, the most useful question remains specific: which task changes, how will you check the improvement and who stays in control? You can find more examples of this approach in the website's guides and tutorials.
