YouTube thumbnails with AI: references, identity and review
In this demonstration, I prepare thumbnails for my channel using a photo of myself and visual references. The most interesting part is iteration: some proposals work better than others, and text or expression errors need review.

01Define the message before generating
In the recording, I begin by looking for a style reference and considering how my face fits the composition. The reference helps discuss hierarchy, contrast and layout, but the final thumbnail must represent the video's content.
To apply the idea, first write a short message. Decide what should be recognisable at a small size: the topic, an expression or a main element. That criterion makes it easier to choose between results that may look striking but communicate different things.

02Use your own materials and make instructions specific
The video shows an image-generation tool with a profile photograph and a second image as a reference. I specify the wording and a horizontal composition. That is the recorded demonstration; options, models and their conditions may change over time.
Work with photographs and assets you have permission to use. Instead of reproducing someone else's thumbnail, turn the reference into your own instructions: where to place the face, how much space to reserve for the title and which colours belong to your brand.
03Check the lettering and the face
During the test, I notice a misspelt word in my request, which also appears incorrectly in the result. In other variants, the expression changes or a letter looks unconvincing. Those errors are part of the demonstration, not details to ignore when choosing an output.
Review the complete text and compare the face with your photograph. Then view the thumbnail at roughly the size of a mobile card. If the message only makes sense when enlarged, the composition still needs work.
04Keep a brand direction across variants
Generating several options allows comparison, but choosing needs criteria: a clear message, recognisable identity and relevance to the video. A different image for each publication can still belong to the same brand if it follows a consistent visual direction.
The original title refers to creating thumbnails for free. This article does not assume the tool still offers that arrangement or present recorded prices as current. The reusable part is the preparation, testing and review method, not a promise about cost or performance.
